Matter over Mind
Mind is all powerful and if you can control it, know that you have conquered the world. This is something that we have all heard at some point in time and also, tried attempting.
If I talk about my personal example, with will power and a strong mind, I have achieved a lot of things in my life. But is that all? If we can channelise the mind, we win? Is it always mind over matter? How about the matter that you and I are solidified into to be called this human, with name and identity? If it is all in the mind, is body just a medium?
I don’t think so. Science is still researching on the significance of the body beyond matter coming together as flesh and blood to impeccably run voluntary and involuntary systems. What exactly is the body? Is it only capable of physiological systems, made up of nature’s elements or is there something more and beyond?
Well, these are good questions to ponder! We may have few answers from the scientific world at the moment and yet, if we just observe our bodies, we may have complete answers. That moment when an empty gulp is experienced in the throat; when you THINK that you have cognitively processed your miseries of the past but a loud sound still overwhelms you; when you have butterflies in the stomach while going to meet an authority even after having worked on your confidence and self esteem; when your gut tells you that something is not right inspite of you been thorough with your logic and reasoning- what are these?
Do you know that the part of the brain that accesses the thinking division is different and far from the emotional department? Also, the reflexes of survival come from all sides and yet are differently located, dependent now on evolution.
What does that lead to for us?
Well, it does tell us that it indeed is matter over mind. What is considered as the mind is actually the prefrontal cortex where all decisions are taken. it is the new brain of the mammals available only to the Homo sapiens. It controls the cognitive centre and has problem solving skills, along with skills of perseverance. Therefore, you will to do and being strong in mind actually comes from this part of the brain. Matter, which is essentially, the body and the unconscious mind, is the determinant of great health and an overall general sense of wellbeing and joy.
Therefore, isn’t it time to re-think our clichéd lines and re-form them based on our matter, the experience we are embodying as we live?
